Report from Mission UK

Once upon a time, a group of Czech DJs and producers went for a trip to the UK, to play in a former public toilets...and boy did the weekend get messy! Our very own Monotype was joined by Czech producer Elektrabel, and DJ Nailer. Techno.cz's newest UK reporter, Petra aka Agentbass, was there to let us know how it went. And by the way, welcome to Techno.cz, Petra!

Public life is pretty small venue with magical and appealing atmosphere. As soon you enter – it drags you in and you just don’t want to leave. And really you don’t have to until the 3 am closing hour.

There is no dress-code, the staff is friendly and except for other drinks there is wide selection of European’s biers. Only one thing is missing though and that is the best bier – the Czech one!!

The venues’ residential night is FLASHPOINT. It is promoted by Matt Chester and Brendan Nelson and the next one is going to be on 19/2. So don’t miss it out.

This was my first visit to this venue and I’ve had little difficulties getting there. But when the neon-red sign “Public Life” appeared in my sight, I got really excited and couldn’t wait to ENTER … /check out their website and you will see what I mean www.publiclife.org.uk :)/

The gig started at 9pm and when I arrived about 10pm Agent 2 was still on the turntables with his terrific opening electro set. But as soon as we (unfortunately for him there wasn’t too many people yet) got into his groove it was time to switch to Nailer and his Roland SP-808.
Nailer perfectly complemented Agent 2’s opening set with another brilliant electro set.
During his set the venue got filled with good crowd of people – all up for a good party. That really started the best part of the night.

At 11.30pm Monotype swapped with Nailer behind the desks. He was certainly on form and the crowd agreed as the whole place was hands in the air. This was techno at its very best – bouncy, seamless, high energy, and those beautiful heavy basslines that you feel going right through your body. No wonder techno.cz took him under their wing.

Having never seen Elekrabel or Matt Chester play before I didn’t quite know what to expect but I was very impressed :).

Headlining was Elektrabel just shortly before 1am. He played live some of his most recent work and believe me - he was brilliant and the music was massive. Regarding to my source his new EP is due out sometime this month on Axis’ Mission label. And soon after that his first album will be released. Can’t wait :)!!

Finally it was Matt Chester’s turn to play. This driving, atmospheric techno with lots of changes and build-ups was wicked. His contact with audience was great and ravers loved it.

Verdict>>

Absolutely great night – great atmosphere, friendly clubbers and 6 hours of the finest music!!
Almost physical contact with the DJs – it was amazing to watch them really closely during their work... :)

I will be definitely looking forward to more Czech vs. UK cooperation in future. Hopefully pretty soon!!
